3 important leaders of the Civil War
There were many leaders and generals during the Civil War, but only a few were very significant.
- Abraham Lincoln (President of the United States of America) President Lincoln had a massive impact in the war, given he was the president throughout all the war. He removed General George McLellan, and replaced him with a much more able leader General Ulysses S. Grant. He also initiated the Anaconda plan.
- Jefferson Davis (President of the Confederacy) President Davis was also a major part of the war, considering he ordered the attack on Fort Sumter. He was smart considering his strategies, but less wise when it came to cavalry. He was under-armed, but was effective when it came to determination. He tried to gain territory in the North to try and gain an advantage.
- Ulysses S. Grant (General of Union Forces) Though he was not a president or leader, Grant was a brilliant military general. He defeated Confederate Forces at Shiloh, Vicksburg, and at Appomattox where Robert E. Lee surrendered to him, thus ending the war.
